Stopovers: Delhi - Dibrugarh - Jorhat - Majuli - Kaziranga - Guwahati
Day 1 • New Delhi
New Delhi Airport, International Terminal: arrival, meet and transfer to the hotel.
Day 2 • New Delhi
First discovery of India with its capital New Delhi. Its many sites are distributed to the north in Old Delhi and to the south in New Delhi where the British preferred to settle from 1931. Both modern and ancestral, Delhi is a pleasant city despite the number of its inhabitants.
Day 3 • Delhi - Dibrugarh
Morning transfer to the airport for the flight to Dibrugarh on the banks of the Brahmaputra River and first stop on your Assam tour. Arrival and transfer to the hotel, a former British bungalow built in the 19th century in the middle of a tea plantation.
Day 4 • Dibrugarh - Jorhat
In the morning, departure to Jorhat. Along the way, You will visit Sivasagar, historic city and former capital of the Ahom tribe who reigned over Assam for 600 years before the arrival of the British. You will discover the gigantic reservoir "Sibsagar" from which the city takes its name and the amphitheater where the kings used to entertain themselves with games, sports, dance and music. City tour to discover the other monuments and Ahom palaces before continuing to Jorhat.
Day 5 • Jorhat (excursion to Majuli)
Full day excursion to Majuli Island, which you will reach by ferry. Majuli is, in the world, the largest island located on a river, here the Brahmaputra. Interests include pottery and mask making. You will also visit the "satras", monasteries dedicated to the goddess Vaishnavi and introduced in Assam in the 15th century by Shandardeva, reformer and Assamese saint.
Day 6 • Jorhat - Kaziranga
After breakfast, transfer by road to Kaziranga, site of the national park of the same name which must be on the program of any tour in Assam. Check-in at the hotel at the end of the day.
Day 7 • Kaziranga
Whole day dedicated to the discovery of the national park, created in 1908. It has been listed as a Unesco World Heritage Site since 1985 and is renowned for hosting two thirds of the world population of the great one-horned rhinoceros. It also has the highest density of tigers in a protected area in the world. Among the other residents of the park that you will have plenty of time to observe: the deer (barasingha), the elephant and the wild water buffaloes, but also many birds, including the adjutant stork, the bar-headed goose and different kinds of eagles and vultures without forgetting the Alexandrine parakeet that you will be able to see, but especially hear….
Day 8 • Kaziranga
Second day dedicated to exploring the park.
Day 9 • Kaziranga - Guwahati - Delhi
In the morning, you will be taken to the airport for the flight to Delhi. Upon arrival, welcome and transfer to the international terminal.
